Size: 101 × 75cm (39.7 × 29.5 inches)
Medim: Oil on canvas
Year: 2017
About the artwork:
Elsie is a striking study of character, presence, and human expression. Andrew approaches the portrait with a strong sense of realism, capturing the individuality of the subject while allowing subtle emotion and personality to emerge through the details.
Created with careful attention to form, texture, and tonal depth, the work demonstrates Andrew’s ability to find something compelling in the human face without relying on excess. There is a quiet intensity to Elsie, inviting the viewer to spend time with the subject and consider the story suggested beyond the surface.
Painted in oils using Andrew’s distinctive limited-palette approach, the work combines hyper-detailed realism with surreal imagery and dark humour, creating a work that is as visually compelling as it is psychologically provocative. The intricate textures and expressive anatomy give the painting a rich, tactile intensity. Elsie is a one-of-one original artwork.
