Deep Rest is a surreal, emotionally charged artwork that plays on the word depression—where the many intertwined arms represent how we, as humans, often trap ourselves in our own knots and cycles. The heavy, clustered form above contrasts with playful pink jellyfish inspired by a certain cheerful cartoon world, drifting through the scene to soften the weight and highlight our ability to be silly, hopeful, and lighthearted even in darker moments. A striking blend of introspection and absurdity, Deep Rest invites viewers to confront complexity while still finding reasons to smile.
Painted in oils using Andrew’s distinctive limited-palette approach, the work combines hyper-detailed realism with surreal imagery, creating a work that is as visually compelling as it is psychologically provocative.
