About the artwork:
Geishe is a striking exploration of beauty, identity, and the delicate balance between tradition and individuality. Andrew draws on the visual language surrounding the geisha, combining realism with subtle surrealism and symbolism to create a portrait that feels both timeless and distinctly contemporary.
There is an intriguing stillness to the work, inviting the viewer to look beyond the surface and consider the character, history, and emotion held within the image. Andrew’s attention to detail and restrained use of colour give the painting a quiet intensity, allowing the subject to command attention without overwhelming the viewer.
Painted in oils using Andrew’s distinctive limited-palette approach, the piece combines rich tonal depth with intricate detail and a raw, tactile presence. Geishe is a one-of-one original artwork.
