Andrew Swarbrick is a New Zealand-based artist whose work cannot possible leave you indifferent. His oil paintings cultivate a kind of weirdness that generates strong emotions among the art profane and art savvy alike.

I am the Knight is a layered and symbolic exploration of Batman as both cultural icon and mirror of society. This artwork contrasts nostalgic admiration, modern satire, and the corporate forces that shape our collective mythology. Through multiple interpretations of the character, the piece question’s identity, fandom, and the many masks we project onto our heroes. This piece invites viewers to consider not just a hero, but the cultural machinery and personal meaning -behind the mask.
